Beach fishing for bluefin trevally

To catch bluefin trevally, I use the same tackles. But I normally sink the lure to the bottom. Once I notice that the lure has touched down the bottom, I retrieve it a very fast speed. During the retrieval, I also allow pauses. And I notice that quite often bluefin trevally also strikes the lure during pauses. They also strike the lure near the reef drop-off. It is the spot where they are staying.

The most successful lures are octopus squid skirt lures – pink, green and even red. I use 40-to-60-gram lead sinker. But I also use 30-to-80-gram lead lures or jigs. They also make long powerful runs. These are also stealth attackers.

They ambush the bait from flanks in a surprise attack.  Once hooked, they will try to bust you off. On light tackle, this is an excitement so real and entertaining, you can feel their aggressiveness and powerful long runs.
